Less computer, more tablet. Less mouse, touch screen more. Main Menu, as “tiles” (tiles) to the Windows Phone 7.
I do not know if at the level of code and integration of hardware and software will change little / much / very much (the idea is “very,” but before “seeing is believing”, which is the commandment of this blog). But Windows 8 certainly seems remarkable leap forward compared to the past, when the new version of the operating system often seemed a facelift – sometimes successfully (Windows 7) and sometimes not (Vista) -, the previous release.
Windows 8 (here the keynote yesterday) is all based on an interface with colored tiles that offer full and effective support to the touchscreen. Mouse and keyboard does not disappear but the “old” desktop will be a ‘”app”, a virtual environment where programs will run (power of virtualization). And, ça va sans dire, the new Windows will have – as per the teachings of the world and the latest Mac OS smartphones – his or her shop Marketplace app.
In short, almost a U-turn which shows how Apple (read iPhone and iPad) computing has changed over the past 4 years. And if he says, not in word but in deed, even Microsoft …
